Frequently Asked Questions
New Patient Appointments
New Patients
Most of our General Practitioner specialists and registrars welcome new patients. Please arrive 10 minutes early for your first appointment to complete registration if you haven’t done so online. We also recommend arranging for your previous medical records to be sent to us before your first appointment, as this allows your doctor to provide safer, more informed and continuous care from the outset.
New patient appointments for most of our practitioners are booked as a long consultation (25 minutes). This allows time for your doctor to understand your medical history, current concerns and ongoing health needs. Allowing extra time helps ensure safe, thorough and personlised care and supports continuity of care from your first visit.
Appointments
We offer a range of appointment types to ensure your health care needs are met appropriately.
Standard appointments (10-15 Minutes) - suitable for straightforward concerns
Long Appointment (20-30 Minutes) – suitable for multiple concerns. If you find that your GP doesn’t offer this as an online option, please phone reception to request this.
We ask that you phone the reception to arrange any of the following bookings:
Extended appointments (where the consultation is likely to take over 30 minutes)
Procedures (excisions, biopsy, Implanon removal/insertion, Mirena removal)
Pre-employment medicals
Health Assessments
Mental Health Care Plans
Chronic Condition Management Plans
Childhood immunisations and catch-up immunisations
Appointment Confirmation and Reminders
Our online booking system will send appointment confirmation and reminder messages via SMS to help you prepare for your visit and reduce missed appointments. We also use SMS messaging for non-urgent recalls and preventative health reminders, such as health assessments, screening reminders and follow-up care. These messages are designed to support continuity of care and timely preventative health and are not used for urgent matters. Please ensure your contact details are up to date so you can receive appointment reminders and health reminders. If you prefer not to receive reminders, let our reception team know.
Phone Consultations
Telephone and Telehealth consultations are available for suitable follow-up care and in some circumstances, may be arranged directly with your GP when clinically appropriate. These appointments are generally used for review of results, on-going management or follow-up discussions. Telehealth is not suitable for all medical concerns and is not available for first appointments.
Getting to the clinic
Driving to the Clinic:
Tewantin Medical Centre is located in the "Tait’s Corner" complex, a central spot in Tewantin. We are in close proximity to Woolworths and on the same side of the street. The clinic is located in the main street of Tewantin-Poinciana Avenue. Free street parking is located out the front of the centre and also via Sidoni Street. There is limited parking around the back of the building, which is accessible via Sidoni Street. Approximate driving time from Central Noosa is 10-15 minutes.
Public Transport
The Noosa-Tewantin bus services (626, 627 and 629) run regularly through the area.
Repeat Prescriptions
A consultation is usually required for repeat prescriptions. In some cases, a telephone consultation may be arranged. If you haven’t seen your doctor in the past four months, an in-person visit is recommended and is a good opportunity to review your blood pressure, relevant blood tests or preventative screening to ensure your treatment remains safe and appropriate.
Some of our GP specialists offer script requests through our online booking system HotDoc. If this is clinically appropriate, your request will be fulfilled within 24-48 hours.
Referrals
Referrals are discussed and arranged during an appointment, so your GP remains informed and involved in your ongoing care, and to ensure the referral is clinically appropriate for your individual needs. This allows accurate clinical information to be shared with the non-GP specialist, supporting safe coordinated care and meeting medicare requirements.
Billing and Payments
Tewantin Medical Centre is a private billing practice. All consultations, including follow-ups for test results and telephone / telehealth consultations will attract an out-of-pocket fee.

Non-urgent results – You’ll receive a text to book an appointment. If you don’t respond, we’ll follow up with a call or letter.
